An Introduction...
or in other words, what you're getting into.
Herein lies a more complete (and organized) collection of thoughts, writings, ramblings, and rants than that which you will find on the lurching morass which is called Facebook. That presence will gradually become a tamer, gentler, more mundane Andy -- whilst the real meat, potatoes, and philosophical explosives will reside here. I do this as a survival mechanism; like every pubicly accessible communication medium before it, social media is rapidly sinking to the level of the lowest common denominator -- and predictably, the AI put into place to police it and separate the wheat from the chaff is execrably trained and does a really rotten job.
As a general rule, I sympathize with most everything I share from other sources, although I may not be a complete consumer of the sentiments therein; my original words ARE my beliefs and philosophies, and if they are published here you are welcome to link to and/or share them with suitable attribution.
I coined a slogan a while back: Cages rattled, realities shaken. I seek to make complacent people uncomfortable enough to reassess their areas of complacency in the harsh light of reality.
Some people may draw the conclusion that I'm a self-important, arrogant, condescending, vainglorious, intellectual-elitist boob.
[makes non-commital 'Enh' sound while waggling hand through a horizontally level position.]
I have a sly, cynical, goofy and irreverent sense of humor, and strong opinions about an absurdly random collection of subjects. Many of them are socially and politically incorrect.
Sooner or later, I am entirely likely to post something that offends you.
In that circumstance, I challenge you to do the following:
- Take a step back.
- Take a deep breath.
- Dispassionately and objectively examine your sense of offense. WHY are you offended? Does your sense of offense apply to anyone other than yourself or people rather like you?
- Reassess that originally offensive statement/post/image/whatever in the context of a significantly larger community -- i.e., the world outside YOUR mirror.
In the days, weeks, months and years to come, you are going to be confronted with the need for this level of discipline by far more challenging issues than most of the paltry things you find on this website.
You are going to need the practice.
Buckle in.
